The Rising Sun Public House on Kirkstall Road has moved closer to rising from the ashes. It has been put up for sale with planning permission granted by Leeds City Council earlier this year for a coffee shop on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. The permission included some additional parking to the rear of the property.
The pub which opened around 1895 is a Grade II listed building. It was designed by Thomas Winn who also designed the Cardigan Arms, also on Kirkstall Road, and he Adelphi on Hunslet Road. The pub closed in 2009, was damaged by fire in 2013 and flooded on boxing day in 2015.
